Students
at St. Michael's Anglican Diocesan College are enthusiastic
Geographers. They see this relevant subject as particularly
applicable to their lives, because of the practical approach
adopted in their classes. Concepts are clearly explained and
seen in action in the real world through regular field
trips to locations such as Kaduna airport (for transportation
studies and meteorological observations), and the Jaji rock
formations (for rock weathering).
Closer to home, the College has a Stevenson Screen housing weather instruments to enable students to carry out extended periods of observations.
Within the classroom, teaching aids such as maps, world globe and a computerised Encarta Encyclopedia further enhance the instruction programme and contribute significantly to students' participation and learning.
Students are encouraged to stretch their horizons and visit various geographical features in Nigeria not least by the teacher's own extensive sample of photographs taken on trips throughout the country.
Geography is seen as a very practical and enjoyable subject- no wonder the students are so enthusiastic! |
