Mathematics underpins so much of the sciences and as such, it is vital that students build up their skills in this subject. Additionally, it is important for everyone to be functionally numerate in order to survive in today's modern world. This is because Mathematics is extensively involved in activities ranging from commercial transactions and trading through to banking and maintaining one's own personal finances.

• Arithmetic - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
• Algebra - use of letters and numbers to represent quantities
• Geometry - measurement of lines, angles, surfaces and solids
• Trigonometry - relationships between the sides and angles of triangles
